Claude Sees Your Money But Can’t Touch It

Claude can now read your bank account. It can’t touch a cent.

Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on November 5, 2026. It is a beta for paying subscribers in the United States — Pro, Max and Ultra plans — rolling out gradually this week. You link your bank and card accounts through Plaid, and Claude answers money questions in plain words, from your real balances and transactions.

The line Anthropic draws is read-only. Claude can see the bank’s name, each account’s name, type and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. It cannot move, manage or invest your money. You sign in to your bank yourself on Plaid’s screen, so Claude never asks for or sees your password. There are no ads and no sponsored recommendations, Anthropic sells no cards, loans or savings accounts of its own, and conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. You can link up to 16 banks, and unlink any account at any time.

Anthropic’s own worked example shows the idea: ask “Where did my money go this month?” and Claude adds up $4,309.37 of spending, more than half of it rent and utilities, $1,024.51 on food and drink — then tells you $1,393.22 will be left before payday, after four payments come out.

Anthropic’s worked example from the Personal Finance announcement (claude.com, November 5, 2026).

The catch, in Anthropic’s own words: “Claude can make mistakes in its answers, so ask which transactions are behind a number, and check important figures with your bank.” Balances can also lag a day or two, and an account linked through two logins can be counted twice.

Claude is late to this: ChatGPT’s finance tool launched on May 15, 2026, and Perplexity’s on April 9, 2026 — both also read-only through Plaid. Claude’s version is narrower — paid plans only, US only, no free tier — and leans harder on trust: no ads, no training on your finance chats.

The storyline

Hook: Claude can now read your bank account. It can’t touch a cent.

Context: Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on November 5, 2026: a US-only beta for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers that links bank and card accounts through Plaid and answers money questions in plain words.

Stakes: Claude reads balances and up to two years of transactions, spots double charges and creeping bills, never sees your password, carries no ads, and keeps finance chats out of training. ChatGPT launched the same idea six months earlier; Claude arrives later with tighter limits.

Payoff: Check your plan first. Send this to the one person who checks their balance daily.

How we verified this

Facts checked against Anthropic’s own announcement, “Introducing Personal Finance in Claude” (claude.com, November 5, 2026), and its Help Center article, plus PYMNTS and BetaNews coverage of the launch. Launch date, plan eligibility, the 16-bank cap, the 24-month history, the read-only limit, the no-ads and no-training promises, and the $4,309.37 / $1,393.22 worked example all come from Anthropic’s own pages. The ChatGPT May 15, 2026 and Perplexity April 9, 2026 launch dates come from their own announcements as reported in the coverage. No original demo video exists for this announcement — Anthropic’s page is text plus screenshots — so the video is a simple muted build, and the official screenshot above is embedded with attribution.
