Grok cut a Comcast bill from $84 to $45 — by phone.
Elon Musk announced on October 25, 2026 that Grok Bot, xAI’s personal AI agent, can now call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes on the response and send you a note summarizing the conversation. For nine days, nobody could prove it worked. Then one call did.
The story
Hook: Grok cut a Comcast bill from $84 to $45 — by phone.
Context: Musk announced the feature on October 25, 2026, saying Grok Bot can call someone or a business for you, make a request, take notes and send a summary. But xAI’s own changelog stopped at version 0.75.5 on October 23, its docs had no page for outbound calls as of October 29, and independent testers at Techloy spent four days trying without placing a single real call. The feature was rolling out, not on every account.
Stakes: On November 3, creator Peter Yang posted a recording of his Bot phoning Comcast. It navigated the phone menu, declined several upsells, cited a competing provider’s price, and cut his monthly bill from $84 to $45 — almost $500 a year. The call lasted about 25 minutes, and Grok Bot asked Yang’s approval before accepting the final terms. Other users have since reported recovering a $100 Verizon Fios gift card, booking a same-day medical appointment and cancelling subscriptions. The business side was real all along: xAI’s Voice Agent API has run live calls since December 2025, and its no-code Voice Agent Builder since July 2026, both at $0.08 a minute. But the consumer feature is still undocumented by xAI, limited to US numbers, and rolling out — not on every account. Calls must identify themselves as a virtual assistant calling on your behalf, and they may be recorded.
Payoff: One call proved it works. Check your app for Calls before you plan around it — and ask yourself: would you let an AI call for you?
