27% of America’s planned AI power just hit pause.

Texas voters picked Gina Hinojosa as governor after she campaigned on a pause on new data centers, with stricter rules on water and power use and an end to the industry’s tax breaks. Texas holds about 27% of planned U.S. data-center gigawatts, according to Wells Fargo, so the result rattled AI infrastructure stocks overnight. The pause is still only a proposal: Hinojosa takes office in January 2027 and faces a Republican-led legislature, and the election itself changed no project rules.

Hook: 27% of America’s planned AI power just hit pause.
Context: Texas voters picked Gina Hinojosa as governor. She promised a pause on new data centers.
Stakes: Texas holds 27% of planned U.S. data-center power, AI stocks fell overnight, and Wells Fargo warned a Texas win could shock AI stocks.
Payoff: The vote did not stop AI. It put its power bill on the ballot. Send this to someone who pays a power bill.

Watch next: Apple’s fiscal 2026 10-K agent-risk warning (filed November 3, 2026): autonomous AI agents may act without authorization, including actions that are difficult or impossible to reverse.

How we verified this: Checked against live Nov 4, 2026 reporting (Unite.ai, ASTIG, Wall Street Journal live coverage, CNBC via those reports): the AP projection, Abbott’s concession, the Wells Fargo 27% / Georgia 7% / Ohio 5% shares, and the January 2027 / Republican-legislature caveats. Stock-move figures vary by source and time of day, so this edition gives no single stock percentage — it reports only that AI stocks fell overnight.
