Google’s Gemini 4 Carbon Takes AI’s Top Spot

Google announced Gemini 4 Carbon on October 28, 2026, and it now sits first on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0 with 59 points, one ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 (58) and GPT-6 Astra (57). Its biggest gains are in cyber defense, but first access goes to a small group of cyber defenders only, with no date yet for the Gemini app or the API. Note that the cyber-defense percentages are Google’s own test figures, while the 59-point Index lead is from independent evaluator Artificial Analysis.

Data: Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0

Hook: Google’s newest AI took first place by one point.

Context: Announced Oct 28, two weeks after Argon; Index 59 vs Opus 5.5’s 58 and GPT-6 Astra’s 57.

Stakes: Cyber edge: 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro, 54.8% on ExploitGym, 71.0% on CWE-bench (Google’s numbers); but a one-point lead is thin, and it trails Opus 5.5 on OSWorld-2.1 and GPT-6 Astra on FrontierSWE 2.

Payoff: You cannot try it yet; defenders first, wider access later; intro pricing $2/$10 per million input/output tokens, then $4/$20 standard.
